Landor Competition Winner Evelina Puzaite Releases Debut CD

Lithuanian pianist Evelina Puzaite is the winner of the Abstract Securities Landor Competition 2006, the unanimous choice of a distinguished panel of judges. A performer of dazzling promise, she has been compared by many to a young Marta Argerich.

Evelina's extraordinary talent was recognised by the legendary pianist Vladimir Ashkenazy at the tender age of eight when he heard her perform in Vilnius for the then Soviet Union's 'New Names' Foundation. The prize money of 1800 roubles, intended to fund Evelina's travel and study costs, was almost spent on a doll's house before her mother intervened!

On 17th September 2007 Evelina is to release her debut CD on Landor Records.

'Moments Musicaux' is a recital of music chosen by Evelina and admirably showcases her extraordinary technique. The repertoire includes Liszt's beautiful 'Trois Études de Concert' and Rachmaninov's 'Moments Musicaux' alongside Kodaly's entrancing 'Dances of Marosszek', based on Transylvanian folk songs, and perhaps better known in its version for orchestra.

'I have been performing many of these pieces for a long time and they have been an important part of my development as a musician', says Evelina.

'I am just so pleased that I have now had the opportunity to perform them on my first CD.'

Evelina was also keen to include some music of her homeland, and in amongst the greater known repertoire in the recital are short but poignant preludes by Mikalojus Konstantinas Ciurlionis, a Lithuanian composer and painter who is often credited with being the founder of both Lithuanian painting and music.

Evelina Puzaite is the recipient of numerous awards including First Prize at the Rubinstein Piano Competition (France) and First Prize in Tel-Hai International Piano Competition, Israel, and has performed throughout Lithuania, Russia, Israel, Sweden, Greece, the USA and many other countries across Western Europe.

Recent critically acclaimed performances have been at the Barbican, Wigmore Hall and the Royal Festival Hall and the opening performance of the Brighton Festival 2007.

'Moments Musicaux' is released on Monday, 17th September 2007.
