Górecki Recording Scoops 5 Star Review In BBC Music The latest release on Landor Records, a recording to mark the 75th birthday of Henryk Górecki by Chamber Domaine, has opened its account with a 5-star review (both performance and sound) in BBC Music Magazine, March edition.
The review of this release, which features 5 world premières, hails 'Chamber Domaine’s tightly-focused playing [which] fully realises the ascetic dignity of the music.'
It's a very strong start for a recording which was a huge challenge to make, owing to the large numbers of instrumentalists and diverse forces involved:
“The sheer range of repertoire on this disc meant that we had to engage 17 soloists to perform in different ensembles, including strings, brass, percussion, two pianists, a baritone singer and even a mandolin player," says Tom Kemp, director of Chamber Domaine.
"This presented quite a challenge, not only of scheduling the sessions, but also for the production team, who had a huge dynamic and stylistic range to deal with. The sessions were a terrific artistic experience for everyone involved – some of the music is just stunning.”
Among the soloists featured on the recording are some of the most exciting young talents on the UK musical scene including pianists Stephen de Pledge and Evelina Puzaite, baritone Ronan Collett and conductor/violinist Thomas Kemp, director of Chamber Domaine.
